I provide consultation (and mediation) regarding separation and divorce. There are multiple options for navigating this complex and often overwhelming legal process. These options vary in their level of court involvement (from no court involvement to extensive and ongoing court involvement) and the level of control separating partners have in the outcome and ultimate judgment/court order.
During consultation, we can discuss the pros and cons of various options, talk about whether to involve attorneys, and if so, how to best utilize your time with those professionals. Of course, I can also talk to you about your specific needs, and those of your children (if any). We can also discuss the components of a parenting plan and what tends to work best in the short- and long-term (both for you and for your children), and help you decide how to proceed in developing a durable and feasible plan that will be in your children’s best interest, and also take into account logistical and other factors that you are dealing with, as an individual.
We also can discuss how to talk to the children about these things, and how to best proceed so that everyone is getting their needs met - the children and the parents, along with any other significant individuals in your lives, such as extended family, new partners, etc.
Families I have worked with in the past have told me that this type of consultation saved them time and money in the long run, and also made the process much clearer and less emotionally taxing. If finances are an issue for you, I am happy to work with you on a payment plan if it turns out that your insurance does not cover fully the services I would be providing.
